Introducing the RocketU 1144F

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

The RocketU 1144F (RU1144F) is a direct replacement for the longstanding RU1144D, which is set to be EOL later this year. It utilizes a current generation USB 3.2 chipset to deliver dedicated 5Gb/s per-port performance, and features a PCIe 3.0 x4 host interface.

Like its predecessor, the RocketU 1144F features driverless installation, and is natively supported by all current operating system platforms including Windows 11 and macOS Big Sur.

Not just a Direct Replacement; USB 3.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 Performance & Utility Upgrade

Despite its role as a “replacement” model, and “only” offering 5Gb/s per-port performance, the RU1144F offers noteworthy, tangible improvements over the RU1144D.

The RocketU 1144F features a USB 3.2 chipset, which is backwards compatible with all USB 3.x and 2.0 devices, not just USB SSDs/HDDs; this includes ordinary peripherals/input devices such as mice and keyboards, printers and flash drives.

In addition, the RocketU 1144F delivers twice the bandwidth; PCIe 3.0 x4 vs. PCIe 2.0 x4 (approximately 4000MB/s vs. 2000MB/s). 4000MB/s may seem like overkill for 5Gb/s connectivity, but is ideal for modern SATA SSD’s (which are capable of reaching the 600MB/s limit), and could be potentially handicapped by the RU1144D.
