Linux Support for NVMe RAID Solutions

HighPoint has dedicated a team of software engineers towards the development of Linux support for our entire NVMe RAID product portfolio.

We proactively monitor CentOS, Red Hat, Debian and Ubuntu distributions, and check for kernel updates on a daily basis. Due to our rigorous testing and qualification guidelines, we will provide updated drivers within one to two working weeks following the release of a new kernel.

Driver Requests: Our Linux Development Team focuses on CentOS, Red Hat, Debian and Ubuntu distributions. If you require a driver for another distribution, please contact our Sales Department via
GeneraLSales@highpoint-tech.com.

Driver Packages

HighPoint develops three distinct types of driver packages for Linux distributions.

HighPoint Open Source Driver Packages (Data Raid)

Open source drivers are created to support a general kernel release, and can be used with any Linux distribution within the supported kernel range. If you would like to request a custom open source package, please provide the following information, and email us at GeneraLSales@highpoint-tech.com :

  • Linux Distribution (link to the download if possible)

  • Kernel version/range

HighPoint Auto-Compile Open Source Package

(Included with open source driver packages)

Our Auto-Compiling driver package simplifies installation and upgrade procedures while minimizing downtime of the server environment. Once initially installed by the user, the driver will handle all future updates automatically; checking/monitoring the status of kernel releases, preparing the system environment, recompiling a new driver, and installation.

We recommend this option for most customers. More information is available Here.

HighPoint Binary Drivers (Boot Raid)

Binary drivers are released for a specific kernel and distribution version of Linux, and include boot support. We recommend installing the open source package as well - this will enable the driver to update and recompile as needed, to keep in sync with kernel updates.

Customers can contact us to request a binary driver for a specific application. It will take up to two working weeks to complete a customized driver. To request a driver, please provide the following information, and email us at GeneraLSales@highpoint-tech.com :

  • Motherboard

  • CPU

  • Memory

  • NVMe SSD’s

  • Direct Download Link to the OS Distribution you will be using

  • Serial Number of SSD7103 or SSD7110

General Troubleshooting:

1.The main reason an existing driver will not work after a kernel update is due to a Kernel API change that requires an updated driver in order to function properly.

2.Things to collect if driver is not installing:

  • If you cannot get the Open source driver to install correctly please collect these logs by following the document: Link.

  • This will help us find the issue much more quickly and efficiently so we can reduce the down time.

  • The Open Source driver will take about 1 week to complete

3. The services we will provide for Linux Distributions:

  • When there is a new kernel update, we will post which kernel is currently supported. If the new kernel is not not supported, we will provide a schedule detailing when a new release will be available.

  • When a customer is in need of immediate driver support, we can provide beta drivers for the customer’s specific application. However, the drivers are not thoroughly tested.

  • The released driver is a driver we have tested and found no issues within the new OS. It will be posted on the corresponding product page.

4. Our Open Source drivers have a feature called Auto Compile. This feature will check if the driver that is currently installed is compatible with the new kernel update. If it is found to be compatible, it will install into the new kernel.
