VR Applications utilize a software application in conjunction with banks of sensors, input devices and an audio/video display unit to foster an interactive, multi-layered experience for their users.


In most cases, the user is expected to assemble the unit themselves, as the camera, microphones and sensors will have to be manually placed within the user’s living/working space. For maximum compatibility, and ease of use, the various components are linked to a console or computing platform (a PC-based desktop or workstation) via USB connectivity. In order to deliver the best possible experience, the platform’s USB controller must be capable of handling multiple, bi-directional data streams in real time. 


For most platforms, this requires at least one dedicated USB 3.0 or 3.1 port capable of providing maximum bandwidth (5Gb/s or 10Gb/s). However, high-end VR solutions often require separate, dedicated pathways, for the headset, cameras and input devices, in order to minimize latency and maintain a seamless feedback loop between the user’s input, and resulting audio, video and some cases, tactile stimuli.

Volumetric, aka 3D, Video and Image Capture solutions employ multiple cameras to record one or more objects in a given 3-dimensional space. While this technology is still in its early stages, it has already been employed for a range of artistic, entertainment and scientific purposes, such as the development of special visual effects for use in film and animation, capturing live footage for short films and music videos, and documenting and/or recording an object for reproduction within a computer-generated environment. Ultimately, the final product is presented to the viewer in a real-time format with playback options, and may include ways to examine or manipulate the captured space in a hands-on manner, such as the ability to zoom in on a particular feature or rotate an object for closer examination.
 

The cameras employed by volumetric imaging solutions capture a tremendous volume of data which is then transferred to a central storage device (often a cloud-based server). Each camera requires dedicated bandwidth in order to minimize latency, and preserve image quality.

Spectrum analyzers are used to measure the magnitude of input signals against the full frequency range of a device or instrument. This spectrum data can then be transmitted and visualized on a real-time display for review. 
Spectrum analysis is essential tool manufacturing and servicing sensitive electronic devices. As such, any loss or degradation of the output signal will jeopardize the reliability of observed and collected data. 
Spectrum Analyzers rely on storage and connectivity solutions capable of sustaining a “real-time” workflow. Uncompromised host to device bandwidth is an absolute must; each USB port must be capable of supporting a separate device path for each analyzer, without degrading the throughput of the neighboring devices.
