Question

Which RAID initialization method should I use for my RAID array?

Answer

RAID array initialization can be configured for Background, Foreground or No Init.

Background initialization occurs during idle system time, the RAID array is already accessible.

Foreground initializes the RAID and it only becomes available after completing the initialization

No Init does not initialize the RAID, this method is not recommended since parity is not generated. Rebuilding a redundant RAID array will most likely fail.
