MILPITAS, Calif., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptec, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ADPT - news), the global leader in storage access
solutions, announced today that it is collaborating with
HighPoint Technologies, Inc., a leading designer of ATA RAID
controller chips, to develop next-generation ATA RAID product offerings.

Gartner Dataquest projects that ATA RAID revenues will grow more than 50 percent per year compounded annually,
exceeding $600 million by 2005. By working together,
HighPoint and Adaptec are tapping into the fastest growing
RAID market segment and extending Adaptec's ``RAID
Everywhere'' initiative to bring the capabilities and benefits of RAID to a broader market.

" HighPoint is pleased to have the opportunity to work with
Adaptec both on current and future products that bring
exceptional performance and consistent user satisfaction to
the ATA RAID markets,'' said Michael Whang, President of
HighPoint Technologies, Inc. ``By working with Adaptec, we
are able to extend our position in this important market, and bring data protection products to market at low price points.''

" We are now as well-positioned in the ATA RAID segment of the market, as we are in SCSI and Fibre Channel RAID,'' said Lee Caswell, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Solutions Group. ``We have successfully launched two industry-leading products in the last two months, and our HighPoint relationship is an important part of our ability to address the needs of price-sensitive customers using ATA disk drives.''
Joint development of an ATA RAID technology roadmap is an
expansion of the existing relationship between the two
companies. HighPoint's state-of-the-art HPT 370 chipset is
currently designed into Adaptec's recently announced ATA
RAID 2400A and ATA RAID 1200A products. The Adaptec
ATA RAID 2400A is targeted for use with entry-level servers
and workstations with up to four ATA disk drives, and is the
industry'sfirst ATA RAID controller to offer advanced RAID
unctionality previously only found in SCSI RAID products.

Adaptec's ATA RAID 1200A is ideally suited for sub entry-
level and rackmount server applications. HighPoint's HPT 370 chipset, integrated into both of these products, supports two independent ATA channels with 100 MB/sec transfer rate per channel. Both Adaptec ATA RAID products are shipping now.

www.hothardware.com compares the ABIT BX133-RAID motherboard with the integrated HPT370 UDMA/ATA 100 RAID controller against the ABIT SE6 with the integrated Intel I815e UDMA/ATA 100 controller.
"The performance is amazing..."

"the Hard Drive subsystem scores show the BX133-RAID absolutely man-handling the SE6. The Striping RAID setup on the BX133 scored THE best drive benchmarks we have ever seen here in the lab on any processor at any speed. Even the single channel ATA100 scores on the HighPoint Controller of the BX133, show its supremacy be far in almost every drive benchmark when compared to the i815 driven SE6."

"CPU utilization was extremely low in all configurations with the RAID 0 set up being the lowest, surprisingly."

"the BX133-RAID in RAID Mode 0, totally obliterates the i815. That was to be expected with the RAID set up and two fast ATA100 drives."

"the RAID Mode 0 set up smokes the rest of the field."

www.hardocp.com reviews the ABIT KT7 motherboard with the integrated HPT370 UDMA/ATA 100 RAID controller
"we got a pretty sizeable jump in performance and it was surely noticeable in load speeds. When loading some of the bigger benchmarks, it was noticeably faster using the RAID 0."
www.ocworkbench.com reviews the ABIT KT7 motherboard with the integrated HPT370 UDMA/ATA 100 RAID controller
"The RAID 0 results is very encouraging. When the CPU is running at specified speed, it attained a 21% speed increase as compared to non-raid 0.

It can be observed that when the benchmarks showed almost 45% increase in performance in the high end Winmark99 for RAID 0 and 14.2% increase under RAID 1 for the Duron 600."

www.ocworkbench.com reviews the ABIT BX133 motherboard with the integrated HPT370 UDMA/ATA 100 RAID controller
"One word! OUCH! At similar speeds without RAID, other motherboards do not score as high as one that has RAID, especially the RAID being configured for RAID 0 (Striping) which gives the best performance! What a ride!"

Game PC reviews the ABIT BX-133 RAID 440 BX Motherboard with the integrated HPT370 UDMA/ATA 100 RAID Controller
"the Highpoint 370 controller can perform better than the i815E's built-in ATA/100 controller in basic disk transfer rates"

"RAID 0 will offer the most to gamers, since it involves two disks combined into one drive, which can effectively double your burst throughout and cut read/write times in half."
